Samsø increases self-sufficiency with intelligent energy storage

With support from the EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, Samsø has launched a project aimed at optimizing the use of renewable energy on the island.

By implementing a 240 kWh system of XOLTA batteries, Samsø can now store the surplus energy produced by its on-site solar panels. This energy storage enables the island to make optimal use of solar energy and ensure a stable supply of green energy, even when the tourist season is at its peak and energy consumption rises. Samsø has thus achieved an efficient and sustainable energy supply that not only reduces its dependence on external energy sources but also supports the island's goal of being environmentally friendly and self-sufficient.

The solution

Solar cells and wind energy are crucial in the fight against climate change, but their potential is best exploited with effective energy storage. To achieve this, Samsø has implemented XOLTA's advanced battery solutions, which have stabilized energy consumption and ensured a sustainable energy supply.

With XOLTA's battery system, Samsø can now store excess energy from its solar cells and wind turbines. This ensures a stable energy supply, even when production is low. The technology ensures that the green energy produced is utilized optimally throughout the year and avoids waste.
